Whether you are a local, a Mid-Atlantic orienteer, or coming from across the country, this event has something for everybody! QOC invites everyone to come out and experience the excitement of orienteering at a two-day event held on the expansive orienteering terrain of Prince William Forest National Park (PWFP). For those planning to compete in the National Champs/Flying Pig, come and take advantage of your final opportunity to train for that event.

And for everybody, plan to test yourself and enjoy running the rolling wooded environs of this great park.

The 2023 Royal Romp at Prince William Forest will feature two days of classic course competition. Final results and individual placings for the weekend will be based on 2-day combined times.

This event is open to orienteers of all levels. Open course classes allow participation by those who do not want to run in their designated age class. For example, a 30-year-old male who doesn't want to run the blue course may sign up for any other class level. However, ranking points and prizes are only available to those running in their designated age class.

Please refer back to this website often as event details will be added periodically.

*Start Time Exceptions:

#1 - IF you are running on the White or Yellow course, then most of you have an OPEN start time.  Report to the Start anytime between 9 AM-Noon on Saturday, and 9 AM-Noon on Sunday.  Your start will be assigned then.

The same applies if you are running the Recreational courses (White and Yellow on Saturday, and White, Yellow and Orange on Sunday).

2 - IF you are a volunteer, and no start time is shown in EventReg, please go to the Start to be assigned a start time when you are ready to start your race.  Report to the start at a time that works with your volunteer schedule.  Allow up to 15 minutes to check in at the start and be assigned a time.  Starts are open from 9 AM-Noon both days, and courses close at 3 PM.

For everyone else:  If the time you were assigned doesn’t work, please email the registrar and we will attempt to accommodate change requests.

What are 2 Day Classics?

Classic distance orienteering courses + awards based on the total of both days of competition! If you do well on the first day, keep up the good work - and if you don't do well, there's always the second day to do better. Both days are sanctioned as National Ranking Events by Orienteering USA.

Standard national age classes will be in effect for all competitive courses as defined by OUSA Rules.
